A sad day

~ Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. ~
~:psalm 116:15:~

A wonderful man died today. A man who knew only kindness, compassion, hard work, honor and who always had a good joke to share. He lived a simple life, never taking more than he needed. His honesty, sincerity and grace are values not often seen in people of today, he was a fine example for us all, one we should all gladly follow.

He lived to be 80 years old and we had the dearest pleasure of enjoying his company for the last time this summer when he came to lend a hand. We didn't know then it would be our last times together, but sadly his life came to a close this afternoon, September 15, 2006.

His name was Marvin Nelson and nearly 30 years ago he became a dear friend of our family. Marvin was born and raised in Minnesota, but traveled alot after his service years in WWII working for periods of time across New England and out west, finally, in his later years, settling in Vermont . He loved working the land, cutting wood and he was also a superb horseman. He never married or had children of his own, but you could not have known a more kind and gentle soul that adored kids the way Marvin did.

In our younger years, my brothers, sister and I, were blessed to have met and known Marvin and then many years later our own children were as equally blessed with his kindness, laughter and good hearted ways.

Marvin knew many people from his travels, he touched many lives and brought a lot of joy and smiles to the ones he cared for.

He will be missed dearly and always remembered fondly, and it is comforting to know in our time of sorrow that his trusting faith in our Lord and Saviour will lead him home where he will have life eternal and I can think of no other man who has earned that reward more than he.

Rest in peace dear friend.

Fair Time Once Again

It's fair time again and we enjoyed it very much, Hannah especially. She's still young enough to really see it from the eyes of a child. She also still likes having her picture taken, unlike her surly big teenage sister...
