The Winter Cometh

So Hannah and I cleaned up the yard today and put away all of the lawn ornaments and patio furniture and grills. It started raining about half way through and then it was spitting snow! It's here, I thought to myself almost kind of excited, but it quickly vanished!

Although, it is neat to realize how we get ready for the different seasons and feel sort of glad, in a way, that they are changing.

All about the yard the colorful leaves have fallen and all the flowers have since died withered away. You can feel the cool winds beckoning from the north and in a few short weeks the snows will be here.

While Hannah and I cleaned up the yard hubby was cleaning out the stove pipes to get them ready for the first fire of the season.

And...now I feel like baking something really sweet and inviting...

Baby I'm A Want You

I'd forgotten how much I enjoy the music of Bread so I downloaded a bunch of their tracks today, Diary, Any Way You Want Me, Aubrey, It Don't Matter to Me and one of my favorites, Lost Without Your Love. I LOVE that song!

~ Yes Im lost without your love
Life without you isnt worth the trouble of
All I want is just the way it used to be
I need you here with me
Oh darlin cant you see...
If we had love before
We can have it back once more ~

And so I have spent the day cranking the old tunes. A little bit of John Denver- Rocky Mountain High, and Chris DeBurgh - Spanish Train, AWESOME tune too! And my creative juices have been flowing and I've managed to create two new graphic sets for my site, something I haven't done in a long time!

What are you going to do when it's April 7 in the far northeast and there is still snow, and lots of it, on the ground! UGH!

Tomorrow we celebrate Easter and the girls and I will go to church after hubby makes us a BIG breakfast and then out to Mom and Dad's for a delicious ham dinner. YUM!

Easter Blessings to all!

So, it did snow...

ALOT!

At least 18 inches, maybe more in some areas! It actually looks like winter now, even though it's getting closer and closer to spring all the time! Well, was getting closer. Holy Cow!

Andy was an hour and half getting home from work last night, usually takes him 20 minutes! Then he couldn't get into the driveway. He went out to snowblow the yard, but the town plows had gone by and banked the entrance to our driveway up, about 4 feet! So, I started shoveling, the neighbors pitched in as they were snowed out of their drives as well. Then a man with a snow plow drove by and gave us a hand, plowed the driveway for us! Thank the LORD! I'd been praying for someone with a plow to happen by and he did.

I went to work this morning, but Andy took the day off and was outside finishing cleaning up the yard and digging out a path for the dogs and around the mailbox even the mail man didn't come today!

UGH! I wanted snow like this back in December, NOT now! To think we had a green Christmas this year and now we have like 2 feet of snow!

But it's not as bad as those poor people have it in NY and around the Great Lakes who have like 10 feet of snow! I can't even imagine that amount to deal with.

This storm does remind me of the snows we got when I was kid. The banks are high, great for sliding and building forts!

I haven't had a chance to take any pictures, but I will soon!

Christmas Time Once More

So, it's Christmas time once more and I'm glad we finally have a bit of snow, but I kinda wish we'd get like a foot or so! We have no snow and didn't get much last winter either. We certainly don't get winters like we use too!

Hannah did enjoy some fast sliding last night over at the neighbors house. They have quite a big steep hill and all the kids used their inflatable saucers and they went pretty fast down the hill! I wish I had gotten some pictures, but it was pretty dark out and we ended up going over unexpectedly.

We have the tree up and the outside lights, that keep blowing a fuse! Andy fixes them every other day!

Devon has her dance recital tonight, one this afternoon and then one tonight at 7pm. This weekend has been a busy one for her! Dance recitals and practice, church events and babysitting! She did manage to make honors at school this mid term though, just one class she could stand to bring her grade up in, History!

Merry Christmas time to all!

My Essay Entry

Why I choose Geriatric nursing, my grandmother. She was the only grandparent I ever knew and she died when I was 12 years old. My fondest memories of childhood are from time spent at her house, sliding down the big hill behind her house in winter, building forts in summer and exploring her dusty old attic full of cobwebs and hidden treasures.

My grandmother’s health steadily declined, her diabetes uncontrolled and her memory failing. She just couldn't take care of herself anymore. My mother tried to take her home with us, but with four children of her own and working full time it just became too much and so the family decided to put Gram in a nursing home. It was awful. My grandmother cried and cried and she became very angry towards my mother and blamed her.

I remember visiting Gram at the home, she was always so sad. She especially hated to see us leave.

After she died, just a few months later, I told myself I wanted to become a nurse and take care of people. I wanted to make a difference in old people’s lives.

During highschool I worked part time as an CNA and then in the fall of that same year went off to LPN school and then returned to the same nursing home where I worked for over 7 years until I went on to become an RN.

I never forgot Gram and her last months here on earth. It was the memory of this endearing, strong willed woman that had touched my heart so growing up and made me pursue a career in geriatric nursing and make a difference.

what do you think? it could be worth $250!

Feeling better

every day, but I'm still a bit off kilter, think that is how you spell that! Not sure, but anyhow, driving is a bit of a challenge. I ventured out to the bank today, flower shop to get Devon some flowers for Valentine's and then to the post office and back home. Quick head movements to check for traffic are NOT good...

Sitting here at the computer, I feel a bit tilted even though I know I am not! LOL Very strange.

I'm planning to go into work tomorrow for a few hours, I'm going to shoot for at least half a day. Dorene is back Thursday and won't she be surprised to learn I've been sick the entire time she's been gone! So much for back up!

Oh well, it could be worse as they say, although, this was bad enough. :-(

Creative Mode!

Wow, I've been in a creative mood all day! Making web sets left and right!! I haven't made anything for a long long time and for some reason, the creative bug decided to bite me today! You can have a look here if you'd like...

Country sets

The three sets I made are all children/baby sets. I guess the baby bug bit me as well! No, I'm not pregnant, but am expecting a new little nephew here in a few more weeks so maybe that is it!

I did manage to get some laundry done today, order more coins, take Hannah swimming at the Rec center and make supper! Now Andy is making homemade strawberry shortcake ice cream and does it look good!

The weather is still so warm, we've had the strangest winter ever! It really felt like a warm spring day today. I'm already itching to get outside and start picking things up getting ready for summer, but then I realize, it's only February!! It's just so odd. I am looking at new deck furniture though and I've decided, once we get the new roof put on this spring I'm going to tear our shed down and build another. I don't know how yet, but I'm working on it! I'll have to do some before and after pictures!

Well, off to make another web set. I need to do another girl one I think, but we'll see.

Finally!

Well, finally, after two winters of sore throats, coughing and throwing up and not being able to sleep at night because she can't breathe, Hannah finally has an appointment with a ear/nose and throat doctor to see about getting those HUGE tonsils of hers out!!! I am hoping and may even insist he do it! I know they are the reason for all of the above!!! I've never seen tonsils so stinking big! Between them and her uvula thing there she has no opening in her throat, none!!! I swear they are what is causing her to gag all the time and cough and just feel yucky!!! So, here's hoping she'll be a good sport about it all cuz she's a kid that can't even stand to get her finger nails trimmed never mind a body part cut out!!!

Raining here, but it's suppose to turn to snow by tomorrow. Kind of wanting to see the snow, kind of!

Things on my mind

I finally made my donations to the Red Cross today. One to the Katrina Fund and one to the National Disaster Fund. I've been so bad about getting this done and then with this latest disaster in Pakistan it made me realize, I hadn't done anything yet! So, that is done. It's not much, but it will help I am sure.

I'm worrying about my oldest brother these days and he's in my prayers alot! No, he's not sick or anything, Thank the Lord, but in other ways, many ways, he has a lot of other problems and I want him to see that family is important, HIS family. I want him to find a decent job and get his finances back in order. He's on the very edge of losing his vehicles and he just doesn't understand what kind of trouble he is in with his money situation. He doesn't drink or do drugs, but he's very immature and disabled with deafness and I don't think he fully understands things as he should and I think he often times is taken advantage of.

My prayer is for him to come to his family and ask for their help and then make a conscience effort to get his life back on track. So, that is my biggest prayer these days.

In other thoughts, I'm thinking about the holidays. I just LOVE the holidays and want to do something different this year and something cheaper! I am thinking books and homemade goodies for everyone! And of course, ornaments. I'm thinking apple pies and chocolate chip brownies with cream cheese filling. Easy and delicious!

Well, guess that is all there is to ponder at the moment!

Geannie, I sure hope you get your site back up and soon!!!
